History of the Central Wisconsin Mueller Book

In January of 1994 the idea of publishing a telephone directory was born in the basement of Carl Mueller's home on 6th st in Marshfield WI. Bob and John Mueller had decided that a publishing company could be started. Bob gathered up information in the Appleton library at the suggestion of John regarding stories about independent telephone book publishers. Their father, Carl, read the material and began to call the publishers mentioned in the library article. As a result of the calls, the pathway to all information required to make a business plan was opened up.

The plan looked good! But implementation was problematic. There were no experienced sales people in the Mueller family. Sales people were hired to get to start selling in later February of 1994. Six months later the first directory was printed and then delivery started in September of 1994. The next few years were quite difficult even with good acceptance by a great number of potential advertisers.

Nathan, the youngest of our seven children showed great sales potential when he decided to just "grab some contracts" and go sell advertising. He didnt wait for any training but apparently didnt need any. Within a few years nathan bought the business from his father and has since created what may be the nations best directory.

What becaem of the founders John and Bob? John acquired a master electricians liscense and owns Mueller Electric (www.marshfieldelectrician.com) has several employees working in Marshfield and Central Wisconsin. John Contributed his computer graphic skills and capital to start up the business. Bob went on to graduate from college as a CPA. He passed the state tests and was in the top five of those taking the exam that year. Bob contributed sales time and capital to start the directory. Carl is retired and enjoying the family and grandchildren and all of the things retired people do.
